In just a couple more days, pitchers and catchers will report to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, and the Colorado Rockies will begin spring training in earnest ahead of the 2016 season. It's about damn time! So in honor of that...
Look, we've done a few of these quizzes thus far in 2016, and while they haven't necessarily been easy, they've definitely been a little more accessible for some level of fans below the die-hards. Just off educated guesses, you can probably get a lot of the Rockies pitchers who have thrown shutouts, right?
Today's quiz is a little tougher. It's definitely for the die-hards.
Instead of the team's big league history, we're going to get a little more specialized with something very specific to spring training: the non-roster invitees. That's right. The guys who come in to camp with no guaranteed opportunity on the 40-man roster.
Some are career minor league journeymen, some are big leaguers who had a down season the summer before, and some are minor league prospects in the organization's affiliate tree not yet protected on the 40-man roster but still hoping to make an impression in camp. Whatever their background, all NRIs are hoping that a strong spring propels them to a big league job. No guarantees!
So can you name all the Rockies' non-roster invitees to last year's big league spring training? Last names are fine, don't go cheating on Google, and don't read the comments until after you've taken the quiz, unless you want to ruin it with spoilers.
No hints. This is going to be tough, unless you have a good memory of last spring's crop that came to camp. Good luck!
How'd you do? I assume this quiz was quite a bit tougher than the first two... was I right?
