Colorado Rockies sign minor league free agent RHP Mitchell Osnowitz

The Colorado Rockies signed free agent right-handed pitcher Mitchell Osnowitz to a minor league contract on Monday night, according to RockiesRoster.com. Osnowitz, 24, spent the last two seasons in the low minors with the Atlanta Braves after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.

Across his professional career, the righty is 2-2 with a 5.72 ERA in 36 games (all in relief), logging 50⅓ innings and recording 9.8 H/9, 5.2 BB/9, and 8.8 K/9 for the Braves' rookie level affiliates in the Gulf Coast League and Danville, Virginia, and their Low-A affiliate in Rome in the South Atlantic League.

The Braves released the righty at the end of November, and he evidently impressed the Rockies enough with a workout over the winter that they decided to give him a shot in minor league camp this spring. Obviously, at 24 and never having played above Low-A, time is not on Osnowitz's side. But with high strikeout totals in relief, perhaps he can catch lightning in a bottle and impress the Rockies enough to land on a full-season roster this summer.
