Start your Super Bowl Sunday off right with a bit of baseball news! Just a brief scheduling note: I have taken over the Sunday Rockpile on a full time basis from Nick Stephens.
Have the Colorado Rockies improved their roster? | Rox Pile
Andrew Dill, one of the editors of Rox Pile, takes a look at the moves the Rockies have made this season and asks if they have done enough to improve the team. Andrew seems to be of the mindset that the Rockies are working to build a stout bullpen full of fastball pitchers. It's an interesting look and well laid out.
Colorado Rockies ship gear for Spring Training | MLB.com
Thomas Harding wrote this very cool piece for MLB.com about Tyler Sanders, who is the Rockies assistant to the director of clubhouse operations and was in charge of loading up the final truck bound for Scottsdale. It's a great glimpse at one of the unsung heroes who helps put a properly outfitted team on the field everyday.
Playing Catch: 10 Biggest Trades in Rockies History | Rox Pile
Another Rox Pile piece, this time editor Issac Marks and staff writer Logan Bannon had a great discussion about the biggest trades in Rockies history. The two agree at the top of the list, but as you get lower there is some disagreement and a few blasts from the past, which are always fun. Deals from the early 2000's like the Mike Hampton trade and the Jeff Cirillo deal. It's also a great glimpse at some of the prospects that the Rockies gave up on too early.
Todd Helton expects pal Peyton Manning to have a great game - The Denver Post
Patrick Saunders has been in San Francisco helping the Denver Post with their Super Bowl coverage, and as part of that he caught up with Rockies legend Todd Helton. Helton, as you have undoubtedly been told before, is good friends with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning from their days together at Tennessee. It's cool to see that Helton is making the trip to Santa Clara to support his old friend in what might be his final game.
