Rockies 2016 spring training Game No. 20: Chad Bettis faces Martin Perez, Rangers

Bettis could gain a firm grasp on the Rockies' Opening Day starter spot with a solid and lengthy outing today.

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The race for Colorado Rockies Opening Day starter honors is on, and Chad Bettis can give himself a big leg up with a solid outing today against the Texas Rangers in Surprise, Ariz.

Bettis is coming off of an outing in which he wasn't exactly sharp -- two runs on five hits and two walks in four innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 16 -- but he's had a successful spring overall. If the Rockies' breakout starter from 2015 can continue that over the next couple of weeks, he could be in line to be the staff ace entering 2016. Bettis has allowed two earned runs in seven innings of Cactus League work, and could become the first Rockies starter this spring to complete at least five innings in an outing.

Bettis will face a Rangers lineup that ... well, has some players in it. Their lineup isn't available, so don't bother asking me who. Thanks.

Here's the Rockies' lineup for today, though, courtesy of Patrick Saunders:

The Rangers' TV feed will be available via MLB.tv. No Rockies feed -- TV or radio -- will be made available. You can also follow on Gameday.
