In the third game of the spring training season, the Rockies leave the friendly confines of Salt River Fields for the first time as they head on the road to take on the Oakland Athletics.
Chris Rusin was originally scheduled to start today, but was scratched due to finger inflammation on his left hand. In his place, Shane Carle will take the mound. Carle was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in November of 2014, and in his first full season in the Rockies organization he posted a 3.48 ERA in 160 innings across 26 starts for New Britain. A late season promotion, he also made one start for Triple-A Albuquerque.
Sean Manaea is one of the top prospects in the Athletics' organization. He was traded to Oakland from Kansas City midway through 2015. In 14 starts across three levels and two organizations, he was 7-1 with a 2.66 ERA. He also made an appearance in the Arizona Fall League, where he was named to the AFL All-Prospect team.
