Ladies and gentlemen, after the end of the night last night, your Colorado Rockies found themselves two games above .500 and just a half game out of first place in the National League West. Giggity. That's (probably) not going to last all year, but still, giggity. Ten games into the season, things are kind of maybe OK.
That will probably change this afternoon, though. After Chad Bettis out-dueled the Chicago Cubs with a masterful start on Friday, today Christian Bergman is set to take the hill in something of a fill-in role against... Jake Arrieta. Yes, that Jake Arrieta. To say we'll be facing a rubber match tomorrow is, uh, probably a near certainty.
Or maybe it's not! I don't know! Baseball is crazy, you can't predict it, and wild, weird stuff happens all the time. Maybe the Rockies will beat Arrieta, give us more of that April hope, and then... yeah. Either way, it all goes down at 12:20 pm MT today, with Bergman—who has appeared just twice in relief this year, throwing three innings and allowing four runs—going up against one of the very best pitchers in all of baseball and the National League's reigning Cy Young Award winner.
