Colorado Rockies prospects: German Marquez throws gem, David Dahl homers again

The Hartford Yard Goats were the only team to come out with a victory on Tuesday off a stellar pitching performance from German Marquez and another home run for David Dahl, his seventh on the young season.

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Hartford starter German Marquez continued an impressive April, going six innings and allowing only one run with four strikeouts. Marquez, who has only allowed four runs in 21 innings so far, has made the Rockies stable of young pitching prospects even stronger and could be the hidden gem in the Jake McGee/Corey Dickerson trade. In three years, Rockies fans might think of Marquez as the big return for Dickerson.

David Dahl gave the Yard Goats all they needed with a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, his seventh of the season. This power surge is new for Dahl, who has never hit more than 14 in a season in his minor league career. He’s hit nearly as many homers as both Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story, albeit against lesser competition and in seven fewer at bats. Still, it was the piece that was missing from his game and it’s good to see it coming around.
