Brian Mundell, Josh Fuentes lead offensive explosion in Asheville

Prospect and farm report for games on Tuesday May 24, 2016.

The Asheville Tourists produced 15 runs on 20 hits Tuesday evening, as they smashed the Greenville Drive, 17-7. Their two hottest hitters, Josh Fuentes and Brian Mundell, led the charge, combining for eight hits, five doubles, four runs and five RBI between them. Fuentes and Mundell are making up for the absence of top prospect Brendan Rodgers, who is on the 7-day DL with a tight hamstring. Rodgers is expected to return later this week, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Fuentes, who is Nolan Arenado's cousin, is in his second year with Asheville and is excelling now that he's getting consistent playing time, producing a line of .411/.455/.700 in 90 at-bats. Fuentes was signed as a free agent out of Missouri Baptist and is proving to be a useful piece of the Asheville lineup.

Mundell, the seventh round pick in the 2015 draft, is mashing his way through his first full season of professional baseball. His line of .371/.423/.577 in 175 at-bats shows that he's not long for the Low-A level and, as our own Ryan Freemyer pointed out last week, could rise quickly through the minors due to a lack of impressive first base prospects.
