The Colorado Rockies and No. 4 overall draft pick Riley Pint are close to a deal, according to Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan.
A physical is all that remains between the two sides agreeing on a signing bonus that should come in at a little under $5 million, notes Passan. That amount would be quite a bit less than the slot bonus amount of $5,258,700 attached to the pick.
This -- combined with Pint's comments to the media immediately after being drafted -- should put a pretty quick end to the strange handwringing that went on following the Rockies' selection of Pint, who was committed to play college baseball at LSU. It will also allow the Rockies to get him into their system quickly and begin working on his delivery, which is reported to be a work in progress.
Pint will likely report to Grand Junction once the Rockies deem him ready to pitch in games.
