Rockies prospects partake in respective All-Star Games

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies minor league affiliates from Wednesday, July 13, 2016.

Matt Carasiti came up big in a big situation in the Eastern League All-Star Game
Hartford Yard Goats

This week isn’t just the All-Star break for Major League Baseball. The Double-A Eastern League and all of Triple-A also took the early part of this week to showcase the top talents in their leagues. Wednesday night they played their respective All-Star Games: the Eastern League East Division and West Division All-Stars played in Akron, Ohio, and the Pacific Coast League All-Stars squared off against host International League All-Stars in Charlotte.

The Hartford Yard Goats sent five players to Akron and they all played their part. Raimel Tapia (No. 6 PuRP) got the start and German Marquez pitched the second inning for the East Division All-Stars, while Pat Valaika, Dillon Thomas, and Matt Carasiti came into the game later. Raimel Tapia went hitless in a game for the first time in what seems like forever. Maybe it was his hectic travel schedule this week (Binghamton Saturday, San Diego Sunday, Akron Wednesday), the penalty for having such a great season. Thomas and Valaika singled in the top of the ninth to help extend the East’s lead and Carasiti finished the game by striking out Nationals prospect Neftali Soto, who had homered earlier in the game.

Meanwhile the International League defeated the Pacific Coast League in the Anti-Futures Game Triple-A All-Star Game with dominant pitching. The PCL jumped out to an early two-run lead but managed just two hits the rest of the way. Albuquerque’s lone representative, Jordan Patterson (No. 18 PuRP) grounded out in the 8th inning in his lone plate appearance.

Unfortunately, David Dahl wasn’t eligible to participate in any All-Star Game festivities since he was promoted from the Eastern League, where he was elected, to the Pacific Coast League. He’ll have to settle for his impressive Futures Game performance.
