The Albuquerque Isotopes have gotten good at setting or tying records this season.
After setting a new team record with 13 straight losses in June, the Isotopes tied a team record with their ninth straight win after sweeping a doubleheader from the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday night.
David Dahl’s pinch-hit, two-run triple keyed a 7-5 victory in the opener. That, plus a single in the first inning of game two, means Dahl has a hit in all 12 of his games with Albuquerque.
“(Manager Glenallen Hill) told me early in the game that if there was a situation that I had a chance, if there was a situation where I could come up and pinch hit, (so) in the fourth or fifth I came in here and started rolling out and stretching, made sure I was going to loose,” Dahl said of the triple. “I was just going up, trying to get a pitch to hit, just trying to put the ball in play, really, not try to do too much.”
It was a team effort, of course.
“It was nice to get a big hit, help the team win,” Dahl said. “Just good at-bats by the guys (Jordan Patterson and Alex Castellanos) before me. They had really good at-bats and we just kept it rolling. We’re gelling as a team right now.”
Rehabbing Rockies lefty Chris Rusin allowed just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out three in four innings in the second game. The Isotopes would hold on to win 5-3 as Shane Carle (4-8) pitched the final three innings.
“I think if you asked (Rusin), he was a little bit fatigued and he’s going to use these outings to get in shape,” Hill said. “He executed some nice pitches. He let some at-bats get away from him, but overall he was pleased with his outing.”
