Rockies affliates went 5-2 on Wednesday thanks in part to doubleheader sweeps for Hartford and DSL, but the big performances happened in Low-A.
Carlos Herrera began the season as the number 29 PuRP but got off to a slow start. He’s turned it on of late (13-for-42 in his last ten games) and showed on Wednesday why so many people were excited by his performance at lower levels. Leading off for the Tourists against August, Herrera came to the plate five times and recorded three hits, including an RBI single in the third, a solo home run in the seventh, and a two out double in the ninth. It wasn’t enough to carry the Tourists to victory, but hopefully it was enough to show his early season struggles are behind him.
Jacob Bosiokovic had a similarly stellar outing for the Boise Hawks. He reached based all five times he came to the plate and scored twice as the Hawks defeated Salem-Kaizer 5-2. Bosiokovic, who was drafted in the 19th round in June’s draft out of Ohio State, continued to dominate Northwest League pitching with two doubles, a single, two walks, and two stolen bases on Wednesday. He’ll take his .336/.437/.542 line into a three game set against Spokane starting Thursday in Boise.
