Story ties Tulo’s NL rookie SS homer record | MLB.com
Trevor Story’s fifth home run in 12 games brought his season total to 24, tying Troy Tulowitzki’s record for most home runs by an NL rookie shortstop, set in 2007. Story, who spent time during the offseasons of his minor league career worked and communicated closely with Tulowitzki, and is happy to share in his mentor’s honor.
Home run No. 24 came in game 161 for Tulowitzki. Aided by his historic start, Story met the mark in just 96.
Mark Reynolds’ large home run flashed his former power, but Rockies will live with contact | The Denver Post
The monster 484-foot blast Mark Reynolds sent into the left-center bleachers Thursday night felt like a former version of himself. Reynolds, who hit 44 home runs with the Diamondbacks in 2009, has just 10 through 88 games with the Rockies. But Walt Weiss is pleased with Reynolds’ year at the plate, even if the moonshots have been few and far between. Weiss attributes Reynolds’ success in a Rockies uniform to veteran adjustments in an ever-changing game.
The team’s emphasis on contact and driving the ball has taken the pressure of relying on home runs off of guys like Reynolds. That’s not to say the second-longest home run of the season wasn’t one of the sweetest sights of the summer for the Rockies.
