Chris Rusin strikes out five, allows three runs in rehab start

The left hander continued to work his way back to making an impact in Denver with a 77 pitch effort on Sunday night

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Rusin's month long DL stint may be nearing an end after a rehab start last night in Fresno. The left hander struck out five Grizzlies in 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. All three Fresno runs came in the first inning as Rusin struggled to settle in early before retiring seven straight hitters and getting into a rhythm.

It's unclear if this will be Rusin's final rehab start, but the Rockies could use the bullpen depth with several pitchers struggling to keep runs off the board and wins on the table for the club. Rusin certainly looked ready to get back into Colorado after the start and his early pull may have been for that very reason.

The Isotopes offense was unable to recover from the early deficit, falling 6-2, their fourth loss in five games. Just before the game, star outfielder David Dahl was called up to the big leagues leaving a hole in the lineup that may have caused the sudden power outage in the offense.

The Isotopes fell to 44-57 on the season and wrap up their series with Fresno tonight. Other news and notes from the affiliates are below:
