Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story named NL Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Story was the NL’s best.

For the second time in 2016, Rockies shortstop Trevor Story was named the NL’s Player of the Week after hitting .478 in the first full week after the All-Star Break with six home runs and a 1.304 slugging percentage. He also broke the NL rookie record for home runs by a shortstop during the week, surpassing Troy Tulowitzki’s 24 in 2007.

Story is not the only Rockies rookie in the news as David Dahl, the team’s first round pick in 2012, made his major league debut Monday in Baltimore, going 1-for-4 with a run scored in Colorado’s 3-2 loss.’s Ben Raby talked to Dahl after his debut.

Despite the call up of Dahl, the Rockies are still likely to be sellers at next week’s trade deadline, with several veterans likely on the block including pitchers Boone Logan and Jorge De La Rosa. Colorado could also move a veteran outfielder in either Charlie Blackmon or Carlos Gonzalez, with catcher Nick Hundley being a trade candidate, as well.

In addition to sharing the headlines, Dahl and Story also shared a house near the Rockies’ facility in Scottsdale, Ariz. throughout the winter and Spring Training this year. Dahl’s promotion means that 2016 will be the third straight year he and Story have played together after being teammates at Double-A New Britain in 2015 and High-A Modesto in 2014.
