Carlos Gonzalez could welcome a move to first base in time

The Rockies right fielder sees a future for himself on the infield.

The Rockies’ 30-year old, three-time Gold Glove Award winning right fielder will welcome a transition to first base when the time comes. Carlos Gonzalez, one of the Rockies four left-handed hitting outfielders, took reps at first base during spring training, but a switch isn’t imminent just yet. Gonzalez is not opposed to the idea. When asked about the possibility, he thought back to growing up in Venezuela where he played first base until moving to the outfield at 14. A transition back could add length to his career when the need arises, but don’t expect to see CarGo on the infield anytime in the immediate future.

DJ LeMahieu’s .324 batting average is good for fourth best in the National League. The Rockies’ second baseman is outperforming his own impressive 2015 season in almost all aspects of his game, but has missed out on the national media whirlwind that many of his teammates have been subjected to.
The lack of attention doesn’t bother LeMahieu, who aims to earn the respect of his teammates rather than anyone else. And according to Charlie Blackmon and manager Walt Weiss, he’s got it.
