Two home runs, one each off the bats of Buster Posey and Angel Pagan, turned out to be the difference on Monday afternoon as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in front of a holiday crowd.
Tyler Anderson pitched well once again, going six innings and allowing just three runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Two of those hits were the aforementioned home runs; Posey’s was a solo moonshot in the second and Pagan followed with a two-run jack in the third inning, which turned out to be the difference because of the lack of run support.
The Rockies were able to score first thanks to a one-out bases loaded balk from pitcher Jake Peavy. Ryan Raburn, who had doubled earlier in the frame, came around to score. In all the Rockies managed just six hits on the day, two off the bat of Arenado, but no runs.
The Rockies have now lost six in a row and stand 14.5 games behind the Giants for the division lead.
