Yency Almonte pitched six solid innings in his first start for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats Thursday night. Almonte allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out only two.
Almonte’s debut got off to a rocky start when the first three batters all reached on hits, resulting in two runs. Almonte quickly settled in and retired the next nine batters that he faced before allowing a walk to lead off the fourth inning.
Almonte’s dominating High-A performance in Modesto this year catapulted him up the midseason prospect rankings. If he can duplicate that performance in Double-A to finish the season expect that momentum to continue.
If you haven’t seen him pitch yet be sure to watch our video of Almonte on the Purple Row YouTube channel.
