Colorado Rockies’ prospect Ryan Castellani has a great start for the Modesto Nuts

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from August 15, 2016.

The Colorado Rockies had five minor league affiliates in action on Monday. Out in Modesto, in what’s likely the Rockies’ last season as their affiliate, No. 12 PuRP Ryan Castellani twirled another gem.

The 20-year-old righty tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out six. After throwing just 113 innings in Asheville in 2015, Castellani has already thrown 147 in 2016 with a few weeks left in the season. He’s now had three consecutive strong seasons to start his career and looks likely to be able to handle essentially a full workload in Hartford next season. Amazingly, Castellani was just the seventh highest ranked pitcher in our midseason PuRPs voting, in spite of what looks to be a strong chance at a big league future. The pitching is coming.
