The Modesto Nuts may not be the High-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies for much longer, but it appears the Rockies pitching prospects are looking to go out in a blaze of glory. Take Parker French (No. 28 PuRP), for example. In his previous two appearances heading into Tuesday’s tilt with Visalia, French allowed four runs (two earned) on 13 hits over 14 innings with 11 strikeouts.
He equaled that performance on Tuesday, throwing seven innings while allowing just one run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Even more impressive: he took just 65 pitches—50 of them strikes—to get through the outing!
After a rough stretch at the beginning of August where he allowed 18 runs (13 earned) over 14⅔ innings, French has rebounded nicely. The 2015 fifth round pick out of Texas now owns a 2.96 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP to go along with his 103:23 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 22 starts in Modesto this season. As top pitching prospects Kyle Freeland and Jeff Hoffman knock on (or down) the door to the majors, keep in mind the Rockies have some pitching depth in the low minors as well.
