Modesto Nuts pitcher Jack Wynkoop posts another strong outing

Wynkoop pitched six shutout innings as the Nuts got a 2-1 win over Visalia.

Modesto Nuts starter Jack Wynkoop lowered his Modesto ERA to 2.29 with his fifth consecutive strong outing in a 2-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide.

Wynkoop pitched six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out five. He needed just 63 pitches to get through six frames, 47 of which were strikes.

In five August starts with the Nuts, Wynkoop is 4-0 with a 0.30 ERA, having allowed just one earned run in 30 innings of work. He has allowed only 24 hits in that span, while walking a lone batter and striking out 28.

The strikeout-to-walk ratio has been excellent for Wynkoop all season, as the left-hander from South Carolina, taken by the Rockies in the sixth round of the 2015 draft, has walked just 10 in 164 innings between Modesto and Asheville while striking out 138, nearly a 14:1 ratio. He has a 2.96 ERA and 1.12 WHIP between his two stops in 2016.
