Colorado Rockies prospects: Tom Murphy hit over .500 for an entire month

New, comments

What an incredible month by the No. 15 PuRP. Plus, Matt Carasiti has shutout all Triple-A opponents, adding to the potential strikeout arms that’s waiting for a chance in the bullpen.

Catcher (and No. 15 PuRP) Tom Murphy has continued his hot July into August. Murphy got the Albuquerque Isotopes on the board with a two-RBI triple, his sixth of the season. In eight at-bats in August, Murphy’s three hits have all been for extra bases. It’s incredible how hot Murphy has been over the last month. On June 30, Murphy’s slash line was .202/.227/.456; at the close of Tuesday’s game, his line is up to .309/.341/.650. That’s what 37 hits and 19 extra-base hits in 71 at-bats does. In other words, he’s hit over .500 for an entire month. Call him up, Jeff!

The other half of the battery was extremely efficient in his eight-inning start on Tuesday. Eddie Butler only needed 83 pitches and 28 batters to get the ball to closer Matt Carasiti, who shut the door on a solid performance overall. In five Triple-A innings, Carasiti has not allowed a run and allowed his first hit. It’s safe to say he’s acclimating well in Albuquerque and is looking ready to take on major league hitters.
