Rockies prospects and Asheville Tourists teammates Brian Mundell and Brendan Rodgers each earned South Atlantic League awards, as announced by Colorado's Low-A affiliate on Tuesday.
Mundell was named the league's Most Valuable Player after hitting .320/.387/.518 with 14 homers, 80 runs batted in and a SAL-record 57 doubles through 129 games. Mundell, a 22-year-old first baseman who is a little bit older than the average player at that level, has struck out just 76 times in 579 plate appearances while drawing 51 walks.
Rodgers, meanwhile, was selected as the league's Outstanding MLB Prospect. The 20-year-old shortstop, who was the Rockies' first pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, is more than two years younger than the average SAL player and has still managed to hit .282/.343/.482 with 19 homers and 73 RBI through 109 contests.
Rodgers is currently the No. 6 overall prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline's top 100. Mundell isn't ranked on that list but comes in at No. 29 on the publication's top 30 Rockies prospects list. He is unranked on our 2016 midseason top 30 PuRPs list.
The Tourists (64-67) did not play on Monday but return to action tonight against the Hickory Crawdads.
