Rockies pitching prospects have bad day

Rockies prospect and farm report for games from August 5, 2016.

There's little positive to report from yesterday's games other than they were, ultimately, just single games. Specifically, Rockies pitching prospects had a terrible day across the board. At the top, PuRP and former PuRP Sam Moll and Miguel Castro combined to allow nine runs in two innings pitched in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, PuRP No. 25 Harrison Musgrave only made it through five innings, during which he allowed three runs on seven hits while only striking out one.

New PuRP Yency Almonte (No. 18) might have had the worst day of all, as he gave up four home runs while pitching for Modesto. He gave up eight runs in six innings total. Rising PuRP Peter Lambert (No. 11) gave up eight hits and four runs in four innings, though he did strike out a batter per inning.

There will be days like this for each of these players. That's to be expected. That they all took place on the same day is purely coincidental. The collective terrible day isn't an insight into the collective or the individual. But after last night's loss at the major-league level, it feels weightier than it really is.

Tonight, the most notable pitcher to take the mound is Riley Pint. He'll make his sixth career professional start for the Grand Junction Rockies.
