Jordan Patterson makes his case for a promotion with the Albuquerque Isotopes

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from August 6, 2016.

Jordan Patterson

Saturday was a day of promotions in the Colorado Rockies’ farm system, as Raimel Tapia (No. 4 PuRP), German Marquez (No. 7), Yency Almonte (No. 18), and Omar Carrizales (Honorable mention) were all moved up a level. Meanwhile, No. 16 PuRP Jordan Patterson continued to make his case for a promotion to the big leagues with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.

The 24-year-old lefty went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, walk, and stolen base in the Isotopes’ 9-2 win on Better Call Saul night. In the process, he raised his season slash line to .323/.408/.509 with 36 extra base hits and a walk rate better than 10 percent in 377 plate appearances. Patterson has the ability to play both corner outfield positions as well as first base and would give the Rockies some much needed flexibility at those positions. He’s also a near lock to be more of an offensive threat than current 25th man Rafael Ynoa. If the Rockies truly believe they’re in this thing, it may not be long before we see Patterson in purple pinstripes.
