MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince says that if the Rockies are serious about contending in 2017, and by all indications they are, they need to pay the price to add White Sox southpaw Jose Quintana. Castrovince proposes a package built around pitching prospects Jeff Hoffman and German Marquez for Quintana, letting the Rockies cash in on their depth of young pitching rather than move top prospect Brendan Rodgers.
Patrick Saunders has a report from a conference call Rockies general manager had with reporters, in which he said the team is still looking to add to its pitching staff, primarily the bullpen, having been in contact with relievers Greg Holland (to whom the Rockies have an offer out) and Joe Blanton. MLB announced the dates of the first Spring Training workouts for all 30 teams yesterday. The Rockies’ pitchers and catchers have their first workout on February 14 and the first full squad workout February 20.
