Marquez sets sights on permanent rotation role -

Rockies rookie German Marquez will likely be in the thick of the battle for Colorado’s fifth rotation spot in Spring Training, and the 21-year-old told Thomas Harding that his main aim is being in that rotation on Opening Day.

Marquez made his debut with the Rockies last September, posting a 5.23 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 2023 innings. He made six appearances, three of them starts, and allowed just three runs on 10 hits in 11 innings in his two starts at Coors Field, walking two and striking out 10.

Ian Desmond really should not play first base - Beyond the Box Score

At Beyond the Box Score, Henry Druschel re-hashes a lot of the same things that have been said about the Rockies playing Ian Desmond at first base. The most interesting bit is at the end when Druschel attempts to project how Desmond will fare at first defensively by breaking down his performance at shortstop, without really acknowledging that playing shortstop and playing first base are two different things that require different skill sets, which makes his argument a bit flimsy if you ask me.
