UPDATE (11:44 a.m. MT, Jan. 25): The Colorado Rockies and Greg Holland have reportedly agreed to a contract, according to Jeff Passan.
The Colorado Rockies are getting close to signing free agent reliever Greg Holland. Jon Heyman of Fanrag Sports is reporting that the Rockies have made a big push to try and sign the former Royals closer.
Holland missed all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, but in a showcase at the beginning of the offseason demonstrated enough for teams to believe his rehab was successful and he would be ready to contribute this upcoming season.
The Rockies were first reported by BSN Denver to be in contact with Holland in December and earlier this week it was released that they were one of three teams Holland was still considering.
Steve Foster, the Rockies pitching coach, was Holland’s bullpen coach for part of his career with the Royals and that connection may be helping the Rockies close the deal.
This would be the third major signing by the Rockies this offseason after signing Ian Desmond at the Winter Meetings and reliever Mike Dunn shortly after.
