For Raimel Tapia, it wasn’t a tremendous Major League debut last season.
As rosters expanded, Tapia struggled to put the bat to the ball with the consistency he enjoyed in the minor leagues. With 11 strikeouts compared to only 10 hits in 38 at-bats, Tapia showed he needed more seasoning in Albuquerque to start his 2017 season.
That seasoning may be settling him in, the Rockies prospect is hitting .500 (11-for-22) in his first five games with six doubles and only four strikeouts. That continued last night for Raimel. A 3-for-5 night with two doubles, one that walked the game off, and two RBI. Tapia’s hot start has fueled the Isotopes into a fast 4-1 start and boosted the hype for the young outfielder’s potential as a major league asset later in the year.
The Isotopes now head to Reno to try and continue their winning ways.
