Rockies pitching prospects Jeff Hoffman, Ryan Castellani shine on the hill Tuesday

New, comments

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies minor league affiliates from Tuesday, April 11, 2017

After years of iniquity, the Rockies farm system seems to be bursting with talented pitching prospects, many of whom were on full display Tuesday.

Top prospect and no. 2 PuRP Jeff Hoffman walked away with yet another no decision for the Albuquerque Isotopes despite pitching effectively. He allowed just three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings. Hoffman got knocked around a bit on Opening Day last Thursday to the tune of four runs on six hits in five innings, so this is a marked improvement. He’ll have to keep it up if he wants in on the Rockies rotation, though, as rookies Antonio Senzatela and Kyle Freeland seem to be anchoring the rotation so far.

Another rebound performance came from Ryan Castellani for the Hartford Yard Goats. Castellani (no. 9 PuRP) gave up nine runs on six hits on Opening Day last Thursday but was his usual dominant self on Tuesday. He threw five scoreless innings and allowed just four hits with eight strikeouts.
