After more than a year of waiting, the Hartford Yard Goats finally opened Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Thursday with a 7-2 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Yency Almonte, the No. 12 PuRP, got the start for the Yard Goats, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings of work, walking three and striking out eight. Almonte left in a tie, but the Hartford bullpen gave up two in the seventh and three in the eighth as they dropped to 3-5.
Almonte has been strong in his first two starts of 2017, posting a 2.53 ERA and 1.13 WHIP and striking out 11 in 10 2⁄3 innings. The 22-year-old posted a 3.58 ERA across two levels in 2016, his first year in the Rockies organization after coming over in the trade for Tommy Kahnle.
