The Colorado Rockies made a few roster moves on Tuesday, reinstating outfielder Gerardo Parra from the paternity list, promoting infielder Pat Valaika from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioning reliever Shane Carle and outfielder Raimel Tapia to the Isotopes.
Parra missed the final three games of the Rockies’ series in San Francisco for the birth of his second child. He has hit .343/.378/.457 to start the season.
Valaika makes his return to the Rockies after playing in 13 games with the team last September. He has hit .267/.327/.422 in his first 11 games with Albuquerque this year, including a game where he hit for the cycle. Valaika provides the Rockies with an extra corner infield option off the bench, as he has been learning third base with help from Nolan Arenado.
Carle made his big league debut with the Rockies on Friday, pitching a scoreless inning in relief in an 8-2 loss to the Giants. Tapia will return to Triple-A to get more regular playing time after getting a pair of starts in left field over the weekend in San Francisco.
