It was a rough night on offense for the three Colorado Rockies affiliates who were in action on Wednesday night, as they combined for only three runs in three very hitter-friendly environments. However, that was not the case for Lancaster starting pitcher and No. 11 PuRP Peter Lambert, who threw six shutout innings on the day after his 20th birthday.
After an impressive showing during his first full season experience at Low-A Asheville in 2016, Lambert is off to yet another strong start at High-A Lancaster in 2017. After allowing only three hits in quite possibly the most hitter-friendly ballpark in all of minor league baseball, Lambert now has an impressive 2.25 ERA and 15-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 16 innings of work during the early part of the season. For a pitcher preparing to pitch his home games at Coors Field, there is perhaps no better form of mental preparation than The Hangar in Lancaster, one of the few parks even tougher to pitch in than Coors Field.
In Asheville, No. 3 PuRP Riley Pint was on the mound as well for the Low-A Tourists. The fireballing righty allowed only two runs in 42⁄3 of work, but he also struck out just one hitter and walked two. Through three starts (112⁄3 IP), Pint has a solid 3.86 ERA, but nine walks to only seven strikeouts.
