Colorado Rockies prospect Yency Almonte pitches Hartford Yard Goats to first home win

New, comments

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies minor league affiliates from Thursday, April 20, 2017.

After more than a year of waiting, the Hartford Yard Goats finally have their first win at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.

The 1-0 win over the Harrisburg Senators was due in large part to the pitching performance of Yard Goats starter Yency Almonte. Almonte pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out 10.

Almonte has backed up a strong 2016 season with a fast start in 2017. In his first three starts, he is sporting a 1.53 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 17 23 innings. The 22-year-old now has a 2.45 ERA in eight career starts in Double-A.

Hartford’s run came in the bottom of the fourth against Senators starter Erick Fedde when a triple from third baseman Josh Fuentes brought home center fielder Omar Carrizales, who had singled. Almonte and three Yard Goats relievers kept the Senators at bay for the next five innings to preserve the win.
