The Colorado Rockies have placed Mike Dunn on the 10-day disabled list with back spasms. Replacing him on the roster and also in the bullpen will be Chad Qualls, who was activated from the DL. Rox Pile was the first to report the transactions.
Dunn’s placement on the DL has been backdated to Sunday, April 23, according to Nick Groke. Dunn will be eligible to be activated May 3 — a week from today.
Dunn was lights out in his first eight appearances for the Rockies this season allowing only one hit and three total base runners in seven innings while striking out 10. His last two outings have been rough; he’s retired only one of the three hitters he’s faced in each game.
Qualls started the year on the DL after missing most of spring training because of soreness in his right forearm. He made two appearances in spring training, the last coming on March 1. Qualls has made six rehab appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque totaling five innings. He’s walked one and struck out five while allowing one earned run.
