Colorado Rockies’ prospect Brian Mundell stars in Lancaster

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from April 26, 2017.

Wednesday night was a quiet night in the Colorado Rockies’ farm system. Triple-A Albuquerque had a scheduled day off, while Double-A Hartford was postponed, leaving only High-A Lancaster and Low-A Asheville in action.

As a result, Brendan Rodgers (No. 1) was the only top 18 PuRP to play. He went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. His Lancaster teammate, honorable mention PuRP Brian Mundell, was the star of the day in the Rockies’ system. The 23-year-old out of Santa Clarita, California went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double and scored both runs in the JetHawks’ 2-1 win against the Stockton Ports. He’s now hitting .293/.357/.493 on the year. That’s a solid slash line, but it’s important to remember that, just like Coors Field, offensive numbers in Lancaster tend to be inflated. For Mundell to reach the big leagues, he’ll need to continue having nights like the one he had Wednesday.
