The 2017 MLB schedule opened on Sunday with three games and ended with the New York Yankees, the San Francisco Giants, and the Chicago Cubs each starting the season with a loss. Two of those losing is a bad thing and the other is whatever. But enough about me being a Giants and/or Yankees fan.
Baseball’s back and the Colorado Rockies are in Milwaukee to start the season. Still, we have a few hours before Charlie Blackmon steps into the batter’s box and some time after that before Jon Gray toes the rubber. You can start your Opening Day viewing with some National League East action: Marlins-Nationals and Braves-Mets both start a bit after 11 a.m. MT. Stephen Strasburg and Edinson Volquez will duel in D.C. while Noah Syndergaard and Julio Teheran will battle in Queens on an ESPN telecast.
About an hour later, you’ll flip to the Rockies on ROOT if you’re in the local viewing area or move to the MLB Extra Innings channel or fire up MLB.tv for those elsewhere in the country. Of the games that start after the Rockies begin play, the one to keep an eye on is the 2:10 p.m. start between the Dodgers and the Padres. Ex-Rockies pitcher Jhoulys Chacin will face all-world lefty Clayton Kershaw on ESPN.
If you aren’t tired of baseball after the Rockies game ends, two of the remaining three games on the schedule will be on an ESPN channel: Yu Darvish and the Rangers host Corey Kluber and the Indians at 5:05 p.m. The Angels and the Athletics play at 8 p.m. on ESPN2, but the Mariners-Astros tilt that features Felix Hernandez and Dallas Keuchel (and starts a couple hours earlier) might be more of your thing.
