Rockies pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman brilliant on Friday

Rockies prospect and farm report for games from April 28 and 29, 2017

Two Rockies prospects who have had their shine dulled a bit played well over the past couple of days. First, on Friday night, Jeff Hoffman had easily his best start of the year in Las Vegas (an unfriendly pitching environment). He struck out eight batters in seven innings and only allowed one hit. Hoffman’s minor league stats can’t be taken as gospel, as the Rockies could have the right-hander working on specific things without regard to results. Still, it’s lovely to see a line like that from Hoffman.

On the east coast in Hartford, Ryan McMahon got a couple of hits over the past two days. He homered on Friday and doubled on Saturday. Almost half of McMahon’s hits this season have gone for extra bases, accounting for his .684 slugging percentage in the Eastern League. At 22 years old, McMahon is still over two years younger than his typical competition in Double-A. If he keeps hitting like he is, he could be promoted to Albuquerque before long.
