Colorado Rockies prospect Riley Pint roughed up in loss

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from May 18, 2017.

Asheville Tourists right-hander Riley Pint had his worst outing of 2017 in a 10-3 loss to the Greenville Drive.

Pint, the Rockies’ first-round draft pick in 2016, allowed five runs, all earned, on six hits in four innings of work, walking two and striking out four. He threw 75 pitches, 46 for strikes.

The bulk of the damage against Pint came in the Drive’s four-run third inning. Pint gave up five hits in the inning, including a home run, threw a pair of wild pitches and hit a batter. Pint allowed just one hit, a double, in his other three innings of work.

His rough start raised Pint’s ERA to 3.25 on the season, but the two walks did match a season low for the 19-year-old, who has now walked 20 and struck out 19 in 27 23 innings this season. He has given up just 10 earned runs in 2017, but has managed five losses.
