Rockies prospect Riley Pint gets roughed up in Tourists’ loss

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies minor league affiliates from Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Rockies affiliates played a lot of close games on Tuesday, going 2-2 with three one-run affairs and one two-run contest.

Riley Pint (no. 5 PuRP) continues to struggle with command for the Asheville Tourists. In the first inning he allowed two walks, three singles, and hit two batters en route to a five run inning for the visiting Rome Braves. He ended up facing only 20 batters in his three inning performance, allowing three more hits and another walk. He struck out one batter in the game.

The bout with wildness is a bit concerning for the fourth overall pick in last year’s draft. Over his past two games he has hit three batters and walked five while allowing ten earned runs in seven innings. Though he appears to be on a strict pitch count limit, so far this season he has only reached the fifth inning twice and has walked at least two batters in each appearance. Before you start to worry too much, though, keep in mind that he won’t turn 20 years old until after the season. There is plenty of time for him to work out any issues, and, considering the ceiling, the Rockies will be more than willing to wait.

The Tourists play an early game today: 8:30 am MT. Feel free to use this as the defacto Game Thread.
