MLB Draft 2017 results: Day 2 schedule, picks, and live tracker

The Rockies will make eight picks on Tuesday

After completing the first two rounds—plus the competitive balance rounds—on Monday night, the draft resumes at 11 a.m. MT Tuesday, with Rounds 3-10. The Rockies will make eight more picks before the day is done. You can follow MLB’s live updating tracker, or you can stream all the action on MLB.com. Then on Wednesday, the final few rounds (Rounds 11-40) will take place. Today’s schedule begins at 11 am MT; the Twins are on the clock for the first pick of Round 3.

Yesterday the Rockies didn’t pick until Round 2 at 48th overall, where they selected prep infielder Ryan Vilade. Vilade has a big power stroke—he won the Under Armour High School Home Run Derby—but will need to develop better contact skills. He came up as a shortstop but the Rockies will likely slide him to third base.

They also got a Competitive Balance Round B pick at 70th overall, where they took University of Virginia right-handed pitcher Tommy Doyle. Doyle, who worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his final season at UVA, had a 38:10 K/BB ratio in 3323 innings for the Cavaliers. The Rockies may have reached for Doyle, who was the 136th ranked draft prospect by Baseball America, but it’s possible that the team is hoping to sign him to an underslot deal to make room in their budget to sign Vilade. The Rockies will pick 11th in every round from here on out, with their next pick coming at 86th overall. You can follow all of this live on MLB.com or on Twitter @MLBDraft.
