The Colorado Rockies have called up relief pitcher Carlos Estévez and have placed Chad Qualls on the 10-day disabled list. Estévez is on the lineup card for Sunday's series finale against the San Francisco Giants.
This will be Estevez's fourth time on the major league roster this season. He was on the Opening Day roster but was sent down on May 3 to make room for Mike Dunn, who was coming off the 10-day disabled list at the time. He was also called up on May 18th to be the 26th man for a double header against the Twins and was immediately optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque. He and Adam Ottavino switched places on the roster during Ottavino's 10-day disabled list stint between May 30th and June 9th. Estévez has pitched 141⁄3 innings in 2017 with an 8.16 ERA and 15 strikeouts and 6 walks.
Chad Qualls has made 17 appearances for the Rockies in 2017 with a 4.60 ERA in 152⁄3 innings. He has nine strikeouts and has allowed five walks and three home runs. Signed to a two-year deal before the 2016 season as a free agent, the 38-year-old is owed $3.75 million in 2017.
