Colorado Rockies prospect Ryan McMahon doubles in Triple-A debut

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from June 1, 2017.

Ryan McMahon, Purple Row’s No. 7 prospect, went 1-for-5 with an RBI double in his first game with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.

McMahon’s first inning double brought home third baseman Derrik Gibson, tying the game at two, a game the Isotopes would eventually win 6-5 in 13 innings.

The Isotopes played McMahon at first base in his debut after he split his time between there, second base and third base in his 47 games with Double-A Hartford. He hit .326/.390/.536 with 16 doubles and six home runs in his second season with the Yard Goats, earning his promotion to Albuquerque.

McMahon, a 22-year-old, was exclusively a third baseman in his first three professional seasons, but the presence of Nolan Arenado at the hot corner with the Rockies and general manager Jeff Bridich’s emphasis on positional versatility meant he started playing games at first base in 2016 and added second base to his repertoire this season.
