Rockies top prospect Brendan Rodgers to receive promotion to Double-A Hartford

The best player in the Cal League will take his red-hot bat to Connecticut

In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, the Rockies are set to promote their top prospect Brendan Rodgers to the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats.

According to Hudson Belinsky of Baseball America, Rodgers will receive the promotion once he is done participating in the Cal League All-Star game, which is taking place today.

The Rockies No. 3 pick in the 2015 draft and No. 1 PuRP has been mauling Cal League pitching this year, posting an ridiculous slash line of .400/.419/.700. Even more impressive is the fact that Rodgers is second in the league with 12 HR, fourth with 46 RBI and first with 147 total bases despite the fact that he missed 17 games to start the season with an injury.

While it’s highly unlikely Rodgers will see time with the Rockies this season, he’s definitely put himself on the fast track for the majors. With a bevy of infield prospects in the Rockies system there isn’t a immediate need but with the way Rodgers is playing, they will be forced to find room for him eventually.
