Colorado Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers was hitless, a rare occurrence for him in 2017, in his debut with the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats on Thursday.
Rodgers was 0-for-4 in Hartford’s 3-0 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts. The Yard Goats as a team struggled, managing just five singles against Richmond starter Matt Gage, who threw a complete game shutout.
Gage managed to lock down Rodgers, who hit .400/.419/.700 in 48 games at High-A Lancaster this season, but fellow call up Brian Mundell did manage one of Hartord’s five hits on the night.
After the strong start to the season with the JetHawks, the Eastern League will provide a much stiffer challenge for Rodgers, though a prospect of his pedigree should be able to handle it in time.
