Colorado Rockies prospect Ryan McMahon continues to dominate Triple-A pitching

Rockies prospect and farm report for games from June 24.

Certainly the most distinct performances from the Rockies’ minor league teams appeared in the Albuquerque Isotopes’ 14 inning affair. Outfielders Rosell Herrera and Dominic Brown combined to go 5-for-15 at the plate with a double, a home run, and a walk thrown in. That’s pretty good for a couple of post-prospects. But they also combined to throw one inning from the mound, in which they allowed five runs on six hits and two walks. The pitcher-less Isotopes might have been relieved for the five and a half hour game to end.

Jon Gray started the affair in what should be his final rehab start before returning to the Rockies. Ryan McMahon had five hits in eight plate appearances, including two doubles. He’s now hitting .430/.455/.720 in 101 plate appearances in Triple-A. He doesn’t have a place to play and it would be foolhardy to lay hopes on a 22-year-old without a major-league plate appearance, but the Rockies could really use an offensive boost from a bat as loud as McMahon’s.

The Rockies’ top pitching prospect Riley Pint started for Asheville. It’s extremely difficult to take meaning from his pitching line. Without the benefit of having eyes on Pint, we can at least say that striking out five and walking two in four innings of work looks like a good night for the 19-year-old righty.
