So it has come to this, with today’s 5-3 loss, the Rockies were swept by the last place Giants and the losing streak has extended to eight. This is not good.
The Rockies actually started this game on the right foot, with a two-run single from Nolan Arenado to take a 2-0 lead.
Kyle Freeland also started well, allowing just a pair of singles in the first three innings, but he gave up a pair of singles and an RBI groundout before Nick Hundley hit a two-run home run, giving the Giants a 3-2 lead.
Mike Tauchman leveled the score in the sixth with his first career hit, an RBI single that scored Pat Valaika, but the Giants countered in the bottom of the inning with another first career hit, this one a solo home run from Jae-gyun Hwang, giving his team a 4-3 lead it would not relinquish.
The Giants got an insurance run in the eighth when Gorkys Hernandez scored on Valaika’s throwing error, and that was all she wrote.
After a much-needed off day tomorrow, the Rockies will look to right the ship Friday in Arizona with the return of Jon Gray, who will take the mound against Robbie Ray.
