Colorado Rockies’ prospect Ryan McMahon continues to make a mockery of Triple-A

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from June 28, 2017.

Colorado Rockies’ prospect Ryan McMahon continued his barrage on Triple-A pitching on Wednesday night. The No. 7 PuRP went 4-for-4 with a home run and a walk, raising his slash line to an absurd .440/.467/.734 since being promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque. For the season, he’s now hitting .369/.418/.610 in 325 plate appearances between Double- and Triple-A. After a rough season in Double-A in 2016, there have been several significant strides made by McMahon in 2017. Perhaps most notably, he’s increased his isolated power from .157 to .241 while cutting his strikeout rate from 30.1 percent to 16.6 percent. Hitting for power is good, putting the ball in play is good, and doing both is great. DJ LeMahieu’s recent injury is supposedly not serious, but if it does end up requiring a DL stint, one would think McMahon will be first in line to take his place.

Elsewhere on the farm, every team in the system had a top 30 PuRP with a multi-hit game. No. 1 PuRP Brendan Rodgers had his first three-hit game in Double-A, No. 22 PuRP Garrett Hampson had a pair of hits and a walk for High-A Lancaster, No. 30 PuRP Jose Gomez had a three-hit day for Low-A Asheville, No. 23 PuRP Tyler Nevin had two hits for Short-Season A Boise, No. 16 PuRP Pedro Gonzalez had a pair of triples as part of a three hit day for rookie league Grand Junction, and last but not least, No. 21 PuRP Daniel Montano had a triple, a home run, and six RBI as part of his three-hit day for the DSL Rockies.
