Rockies pitching prospect Sam Howard pitches well in otherwise forgettable day

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies’ minor league affiliates from Friday June 29, 2017.

It was a slow day for Rockies’ prospects. Most of the action—or rather, “action”—came in the Isotopes 8-0 loss.

Ryan McMahon, it turns out, is capable of going hitless in a game. But he did still make his way on base by way of a walk in his four plate appearances yesterday. In fact, none of the Isotopes yesterday were able to handle Astros’ top prospect Joe Musgrove. He only allowed one hit in his seven innings of work. And it was the only hit the Isotopes were able to muster.

Conversely, the Isotopes sent five pitchers to the mound yesterday. Starter Sam Howard fared well. He struck out five batters in five innings. Jairo Díaz pitched a scoreless frame, as did the newly acquired Zac Rosscup. Jerry Vasto, however, probably wished he didn’t exist for the time he was pitching. He allowed seven runs in 23 of an inning.
