The Colorado Rockies made a pair of roster moves today. They optioned OF/1B Jordan Patterson to Triple-A Albuquerque and reinstated Alexi Amaista from paternity leave.
Patterson was called up when Gerardo Parra was sent to the DL with a strained quad. The day before, Ramiel Tapia was called up in the corresponding move when Amarista left the team but when Parra went down with his leg injury it created the need for an additional outfielder until Amarista could return. Unfortunately for Patterson, that window was only one day long.
Amarista was placed on paternity leave before Tuesday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians. Amarista has been a key part of the Rockies bench this season hitting .338/.348/.515. He’s also been a versatile defensive piece for manager Bud Black and has logged time at all three outfield positions as well as at shortstop and second base.
Patterson had been struggling to start the season in Triple-A, but his place on the 40-man roster made him the easiest to promote for such a short time frame. Hopefully, he’ll continue to turn his season around when he returns to the Albuquerque Isotopes.
